Our faculty is dedicated to the improvement of all our athletes. Get to know us a little to understand our passion and approach to the tennis community.


Brandon Diaz

Founder/Head Instructor

Brandon has been living in the Antelope Valley since three years old and first came into contact with tennis at the age of 11. He graduated from Highland High School in 2010 on the varsity tennis team. He began coaching in 2013 becoming the Quartz Hill High School boys' head coach (2013-2016) and Highland High School girls' head coach (2015-2016). He has since then become a USPTA Professional coach and founded Excel Tennis with close friends and continues coaching classes and private lessons. You can find him teaching at Sgt. Steve Owen Memorial Park.

Greg Barnes

Instructor - Head of Jane Reynolds

Greg Barnes has 38 years of experience in tennis, including 20 years of USTA competition. He's achieved the top 20 for five years and was back-to-back #2 in the NTRP 4.5 Southern California Region. He has been coaching for over 5 years from ages 3-64 and has coached all skill levels. Him and Brandon lead the efforts towards growing tennis through Excel Tennis in the Antelope Valley after years of brainstorming. Boris alvarez 

Instructor - Head of Palmdale Division

Boris Alvarez graduated Highland High School in 2016 as the Captain of the undefeated number one seed CIF Varsity team for the Antelope Valley. He has since then actively participated in USTA tournaments where he currently competes. Boris joined forces with Brandon to provide coaching lessons and privates for any eager students through Excel Tennis. He actively trains at Sgt. Steve Owen Memorial. You can catch Boris teaching at Marie Kerr Park.


Elaine Ma


Elaine was coached under Brandon Diaz in her 2015-2016 school year as a line 2 Varsity doubles player. She trained privately with Brandon to finish off her next year as the #1 ranked singles player on her Varsity team at Highland High School. Elaine assisted Brandon for over a year as an aid where she learned the ropes to teaching and developed a passion for coaching. Elaine coaches for Excel Tennis and loves working with the 5-8 year old classes. You can catch Elaine coaching at Domenic Massari Park.
